I am a list-making fool. Grocery lists, laundry lists, word lists, to-do lists, want lists, goal lists, naughty lists, nice lists, lists of my lists.
Admittedly, even a bucket list.
It changed slightly when I got multiple sclerosis, becoming this dichotomous entity of “things I want to do and maybe still can” and “things I will probably never get to do now.”
Go to the top of the Statue of Liberty? That will probably be in the latter. Climb any mountain larger than a molehill? Depends on the season and how strenuous the climb is. Roller derby? (I have such good names in mind!) Not advisable.
And now I’ve added a third category: “Things I need to do before it becomes too late.”
Like travel Europe. Trek to Machu Picchu. Hike a portion of the Great Wall of China. Marvel at the grandeur of the Grand Canyon. Have a kid. Scuba dive. Zorb. Ride an elephant. Put together a performance of dance/words/music for MS.
Go to New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Not the week before, or the week after. The week of … and catch a Muse shoe.
I’ve lived my life up till now thinking that there would be time for all that I wanted to do.
But the time is now. I’ve got to start making my life matter not when this year wraps up, not when I turn 35, NOW.
So let the good times roll!
You have fun in N.O. during Mardi Gras. I’m more of a “week before” or “week after” kind of person myself. 🙂
You’re probably right. The crowds, the lines, the drunks…but I think it’s something to experience at least once, right? Preferably from a private balcony on Bourbon Street.
I agree…let the good times roll! Now! 😉
